I really appreciate your thoughtful and studious approach to conservatism, however I would dispute items #2 and #3 as being extremely vague as to the concept of "freedom". Freedom, if by this definition includes a completely unregulated "free market", has proven time and again to result in greedy profit-taking (see financial industry), off-shoring, and a vast chasm between income growth of the top 5% vs. everyone else over the past few decades.

If, however, you are talking about social and human rights freedoms, then yes. But in order for capitalism not to slowly devolve into feudalism, there is a need to make sure that those with the most economic power do not abuse it.

[...] The younger couple is typical of their generation. They thought the real estate bubble was their shortcut to prosperity and probably spent beyond their means in anticipation of finding a pot of gold just beyond the next corner. He is a moderate and the least political of the bunch. He seems strong on gun ownership and personal liberty, but gets squishy on social issues and those which his other half is passionate. They are dialed in. They watch Jon Stewart and know about all of the hip restaurants. Their news sources include Saturday Night Live, Katie Couric, The View, Oprah, TMZ.com, PerezHilton.com, and any one of the plethora of magazines you might find sitting in the lobby or your dentist’s office. She actually offered up the highlight of the evening by saying that my disgust for socialism and communism was, “so ’80s”. Apparently she is unfamiliar with this little nugget of nostalgia. [...]

It wasn't that long ago when communism was something to be shunned and avoided. Even in Hollywood, to be associated, or thought to be associated, with communism was your death knell. John Wayne/Jimmy Stewart, these guys railed against this evil.

Now you have Sheryl Crowe singing, "my friend the communist, holds meetings in his office." It's sick. Today, a trip to Cuba and a meeting with El Presidente is quite vogue. Of course, the communist leaders love this because when our cultural "heroes" embrace this nonsense it lends credibiliity and perpetuates acceptance of this horrible system.
