19. February 2008

H/T: www.reason.tv FROM REASON.TV: To hear the Lou Dobbses and Bill O’Reillys of the world–not to mention politicians ranging from Ron Paul to Hillary Clinton–the middle class of America (however you define that term) has never had it so tough. Between credit squeezes, out-of-control immigration, rising costs of education and health care and everything else, it’s [...]

Thank the Far Right…

Conservatives can’t stand McCain. Unfortunately, they (especially the right wing Christian conservatives) sat around on their thumbs waiting for a conservative white knight to suddenly appear and save the day. They dreamt of a Gingrich announcement, but that never materialized. They latched on to Thompson, but he fizzled. So they clung to the under-funded, under-organized, unrealitistic notion of a Huckabee presidency, and that [...]

1. February 2008

Just a couple of observations regarding the Democratic debate last night. I don’t follow the Democrats nearly as closely as the Republicans during the primary season. Of the 17 debates, I have watched two or three. What makes these debates so difficult to watch is that the candidates have tailored their messages to the hypersensitive [...]

With the field becoming more narrow by the minute and McCain beginning to look like the front runner going into Super Tuesday, some on the Right are suggesting that McCain has some explaining to do. Given his ACTIONS in recent years on issues such as judges, taxes, immigration, and campaign finance reform, I am not [...]

Bush’s State of the Union to Highlight Earmark Reform

This just came in over the transom… The President is apparently going to outline significant steps towards meaningful earmark reform during tonight’s State of the Union address. While such reform is welcome, I am compelled to wonder, why now? Why weren’t earmarks a high priority item back when Republicans controlled congress… back before the orgy [...]

Obama on the Republican Ticket?

How badly do the Republicans want to win in 2008? How important is it, especially with regard to national security and upcoming Supreme Court appointments, that someone representing the right side of the political spectrum be elected the next president of the United States? And suppose Hillary is the nominee? What if the Republican nominee selects [...]

A Brokered Convention?

5. January 2008

H/T: Duane Patterson over at HughHewitt.com Duane has an interesting theory about the roll of Newt Gingrich in this election cycle and points out that if a clear leader does not emerge from the Republican primary, we could end up with a brokered Republican convention. He further suggests that such a scenario could result in a figure like Newt Gingrich riding [...]

The Big O

The Big O

I believe I just watched one of America's most influential personalities of pop culture grab the mantle of optimism, the one claimed by winners of most presidential elections, and place it squarely in the hands of Barack Obama. It is the same mantle claimed by Ronald Reagan when he spoke of the "shining city on the hill."

Letter from the Editor: Inaugural Issue of Red County

My government mandated K-12 experience was immediately followed by my parent mandated attendance at a four year college. I studied at a state university along with 40,000 of my closest friends for... however long it took me to graduate. Through the first couple of years, I partied a lot and studied very little. That changed when I took an entry level political science course with Professor Alana Northrop. She captured my imagination and in the process, helped kick start my passion for learning. I graduated with an undergraduate degree in political science.
